The close harmony group "Octavians" was founded in 2006 by 8 former and active members of the boy’s choir of the Jena philharmonics. Many regional and international concerts were performed from which concerts by order of the town Jena, the Jena philharmonics and the ministry for culture of Thuringia have been special highlights.

In September 2008, three foundation members left, leading to a new orientation of the group with respect to musical as well as personal aspects.

The repertoire of this group contains sacred pieces and madrigals, traditional, romantic and last but not least humorous songs spanning more than 500 years of musical history.
